In the SHADOW of NANDA DEVI - CONTACT US
16 days - Trekking in the foothills of India's greatest peaks - Pristine ridge-top trekking - Idyllic campsites - Superb mountain views - Traditional shepherd communities
Straddling the districts of Garhwal and Kumaon, close to the Nepalese border, Nanda Devi (7817m.) is the geographical and spiritual high point of India. We begin our journey to this sacred mountain by taking the night train from Delhi to Kathgodam and spend a night at the Khali Estate before continuing to the roadhead at the village of Song. Trekking west to east, from the valley of the Ram Ganga to the Gauri Ganga, we follow a continually interesting and scenic route through a delightfully unspoiled corner of the Indian Himalaya. Traversing alpine meadows and crossing high passes, we have panoramic views of the clustered peaks of the Nanda Devi Sanctuary and of the adjacent Panch Chuli group. Visits to several villages and shepherds' camps en route provide a great deal of cultural interest during our journey. This is an excellent trekking holiday in an area visited by few adventure travellers.
