The Classic MARKHA VALLEY Trek - CONTACT US
15 days - The best short trek in Ladakh - Two high pass crossings - Splendid mountain views - Charming Buddhist people and their colourful religion
This deservedly popular trek traces a route through the rugged Zanskar mountains, following a high valley where the way of life has changed little for centuries. From Leh, the ancient regional capital, we trek across the Ganda La to gain access to one of the most beautiful valleys in Ladakh. Here, the stark and spectacular mountain scenery is coloured by green irrigated fields and the red of the monks' robes at the villages and monasteries on our route. Gradually gaining height beside the Markha stream, our highest camp is at 4700 metres on the Nimaling Plain, in the realm of the snow leopard and impressive lammergeier or bearded vulture. Before setting off on trek, we have scheduled several days for acclimatisation and sightseeing at the monasteries of the Indus Valley. This superb trekking holiday offers a taste of the very essence of Ladakh.
