ROCKY MOUNTAIN PIONEER  - CONTACT US

15 Days - Retrace the route of 19th century pioneers and fur traders - Trek along the scenic Skyline Trail - 5-day Canadian canoe wilderness expedition - Stunning Rocky Mountain scenery and wildlife.

In 1813 a fur trading post was established deep in the Canadian Rockies, where goods were transferred from canoes to pack-horses for their onward journey into the mountains. The town of Jasper grew from this tiny outpost and now lies at the heart of one of North America's most scenic national parks. Our exploration of this region begins with a day hike into the mountains around Jasper before setting off on the 28 mile Skyline Trail. With pack-horses to carry our gear we spend 3 days on this trail which follows the crest of the Maligne Range, with snow capped peaks and glacier-fed waterfalls all around. Returning to Jasper, we spend some time learning basic Canadian canoe strokes and safety routines before setting off into the wilderness along the Athabasca River. Perfectly suited to novice canoeists, our 5-day river journey through uninhabited territory offers excellent opportunities to spot beaver, elk, bear and moose.
