ALASKA CLIMBER - CONTACT US

22 days - Straightforward alpine climbing in the Chugach Mountains - Two challenging objectives, Mount Valhalla and Mount Witherspoon - Spectacular ski-plane approach - A total wilderness experience

The coastal Chugach Mountains of south central Alaska sweep eastwards from Anchorage for 250 miles. This impressive and rarely-visited range offers almost limitless possibilities for alpine style climbing in a remote wilderness area where most peaks remain unnamed and unclimbed. The twin objectives of our exciting Alaska 2003 expedition are the peaks of Mount Valhalla (12,135ft.) and Mount Witherspoon (12,012ft.). By taking a ski-plane flight directly into the heart of this glaciated region, we can maximise the amount of time spent in the mountains. This is an entirely self-supported expedition and group members will be given instruction in the use of snowshoes and in the use of plastic sleds for load hauling. All climbing is on snow, involving slopes up to 40 degrees. Previous trips to Alaska have made first British ascents of numerous peaks, including Mount Wrangell, Mount Bear and Mount Sanford.
