The LOST WORLD of RORAIMA - CONTACT US
11 days - Venezuela's most outrageous trek - Fabulous plant and wildlife spotting - Angel Falls - Our shortest South American trekking holiday At the point where Venezuela, Brazil and Guyana meet, the flat-topped Mount Roraima is one of the world's special places. Towering above the surrounding savannah and tropical forest, its sandstone cliffs and apparently inaccessible summit lend it a tangible air of mystery and influenced Conan Doyle to write "The Lost World." We travel to this remote region via Caracas and the Pemon Indian settlement at Pareitepuy, where we begin our 5-day trek into the unknown. Walking through open grassland and then cloud forest, we reach the unlikely diagonal ramp leading to Roraima's summit. En route, the flower and bird spotting opportunities are superb. A day for exploring the summit plateau reveals strange rock formations, unique plant and animal species and surprising views of neighbouring table-topped peaks. A bonus, on our flight back to Caracas, is the chance to see Angel Falls which, at over 1000 metres, is the world's highest.
