An Introduction to Tibet
Appropriately known as "the roof of the world," the high plateau of Tibet reaches elevations of well over 5000 metres and is bounded to the south by the massive snow-capped barrier of the Himalayas. Most of the collection of tours and treks in this region profit from the fact that several of the world's greatest peaks, including Mount Everest, present their most dramatic aspects towards Tibet. A notable example, and contender for Tibet's finest trek, is our Kangshung - unseen Face of Everest adventure which approaches the stunning and rarely-visited east side of the mountain. For non-trekkers, the classic and equally spectacular Everest from Tibet Tour continues to be popular. An exciting new offering is our Worlds Highest Trek, which provides the opportunity to get right up close to the north side of Everest, trekking above Camp III to the summit of Lhakpa Ri (7045m.). There is also an improved itinerary for our Overland to Kailas trip, which now includes a visit to Everest's northern approaches in the Rongbuk Valley. Far to the east, on the border between Tibet and the Chinese province of Sichuan, the group of peaks centred on Chenresig (6032m.) is the focus for a new reconnaissance adventure, the Shangri La Trek. Having run holidays in Tibet for more than 15 years, we have the contacts and the experience to ensure that your visit to this fascinating Buddhist stronghold is memorable for all the right reasons
