BAD BREATH, LOOKING FAT AND FASHION DISASTERS are among the latest fears and predate worries for us all. This has been ‘recently discovered’ by yet another dating guru. QUELLE SURPRISE!!!
Choosing the right outfit – not too formal and not too flashy and certainly no short skirts and heaving cleavages for the ladies. Absolutely no scruffy jeans, flapping shirt tails and definitely no anoraks for the gents – and this is just the start. Surveying a cross section of the British Dating Public proved somewhat enlightening according to the guru. Would you have guessed it – BAD BREATH heads the list – apparently more than 50% or us think about this before a date especially with a new acquaintance. I am not trying to be flippant but this is pretty obvious. Who wouldn’t be put off by someone with bad breath? This is easily alleviated by simple but regular dental hygiene – brush your teeth, floss and if necessary – top it all up with a mouthwash. This should do the trick.
NEXT – BODY ODOUR Well yes! There are those who blithely sail through life totally unaware. Most of us though realise that not using some form of deodorant/anti perspirant will result in a not so wholesome ambience. DON’T FORGET TO SPRAY BEFORE YOU LEAVE FOR YOUR DATE and please, don’t use those cheap smelling perfumes and after shaves which one gets such a strong whiff of in passing but something classy and simply fragrant.
Excessive sweating and bad teeth can also be covered by the above.
A massive turn off for the ladies can be FACIAL HAIR. So often agencies will interview ladies who stipulate that facial hair is definitely a no no! Spotty skin, too much make up and un-groomed nails are also off putting.
Men are more likely to offend in the ungroomed nails category so gents – scrub ‘em and keep them short and tidy.
CONVERSATION – what do you talk about? Never ever discuss past dates especially in a derogatory manner. Your meeting, for which you have prepared so carefully will, in effect, be over. Your date will start to wonder what you are going to say about them and it will all go downhill from there. Keep it light hearted – not too much about work or family to start with but ask questions (avoid interrogation) about hobbies, holidays etc and show an interest in them. LISTEN TO THEIR ANSWERS and don’t be tempted to keep interrupting.
Apparently, the best time of the week to contact a date if Friday when everyone is winding down in anticipation of the weekend and probably looking for something to do.
So often people are looking for the unrealistic perfect 10 in a partner. If this is you then remember – if you want a perfect 10 then you have to be a perfect weight yourself. Dress to impress (remember the 12 minutes to impress rule) and keep looking to improve yourself on every level.
NOW – THAT FIRST KISS which involves the senses of touch taste and smell and it is where all the above care comes into fruition. Mint can provide a fresh cooling sensation so always have some mints handy. SMILE – always! Not a seedy leer or inane grin but a genuine friendly warm smile as if you are glad to see your date – even if you haven’t actually met before. This is where nice white teeth come into their own. No sign of tobacco stains or bad breath, just clean pearly whites.
Finally – confidence is the key and all of the above should provide you, dear reader, with said confidence. If you follow these simple steps there will be no need for predate angst and you will, instead, be full of confidence in anticipation of the meeting ahead.
